Colorado faces a 40-50% cut to our annual Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) award in the next funding cycle. Bright Future Foundation and many victim service providers [including event sponsors Violence Free Colorado and Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CCASA)], local police staff and county sheriffs’ offices, along with state officials like Representative Lukens and State Senator Dylan Roberts, joined together to advocate for more funds to stay with these organizations to support survivors and their families.
Many sexual assault and domestic violence (SA/DV) programs are already working beyond their means to meet the growing needs of survivors in their communities. Inconsistent funding hurts survivors and victim service providers alike, and a devastating cut like this could shutter programs across the state, leaving survivors without support in their time of need.
