This past October, our Clinical Director, Dr. Casey Wolfington, was awarded the Excellence in Training Award from DU’s Graduate School of Professional Psychology. This prestigious award is only given to one field instructor each year and the award is a particular honor for Dr. Wolfington and Bright Future Foundation, as students are responsible for both nomination and award selection.
Dr. Casey Wolfington was nominated by CJ Clinksales, who is finishing up his degree at DU and was our psychology extern in 2018. He had some wonderful words about Dr. Wolfington’s advisement of the internship program:
“While interning at Bright Future Foundation I was incredibly impressed with Casey’s ability to manage, support, and continue to build such an incredible environment for such an important and needed organization in Eagle County. The non-profit organization is able to provide multidimensional services (including counseling, legal services, housing accommodations, parenting programs, and a 24-crisis hotline) to a rural community with immense socioeconomic disparity. Casey’s training and supervision was intensive, thoughtful, and challenging. Moreover, she created a environment for myself, as an intern, to gain independence and agency as a clinician. This is a skill that I believe is hard to come by, and is unique to Casey’s approach to supervision. I felt empowered to become the therapist that I wished to be, while encouraged and challenged constantly to reflect, process, and analyze my own therapeutic process, actions, and conceptualizations. As a budding therapist, I am proud to have Casey’s excellent guidance and tutelage as a part of the framework of my clinical skills and understanding.”
